The team at our Doncaster site welcomed local MP Sally Jameson to site recently to discuss all things manufacturing and the business economy in the city.

Welcomed by Managing Director, Paul High; Customer Services Manager, Charlotte Easby, and Regional Managing Director and Doncaster resident, Stacey Austin, Sally enjoyed a tour of the 45,000 sq ft manufacturing facility to appreciate the complex processes involved in manufacturing corrugated packaging, and the regulatory legislations surrounding the packaging industry.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Sally to site and allow her to appreciate, first-hand, a manufacturing business in her constituency, one that is celebrating fifty years in business next summer,” said Paul. “Corrugated packaging is the backbone of the UK supply chain and yet, it is something that is often overlooked as an industry which adds value to society.”

At least 85% of the Doncaster team are from the local community with several of them having worked in the business for over twenty years. It’s longest serving member has reached almost fifty years and has been there almost since the factory opened.

Originally known as Doncaster Packaging it has been part of different packaging groups. It was acquired by the independently owned Logson Group in 2006.

During the visit Sally met with other members of the Doncaster team and watched several aspects of the manufacturing process including printing, die-cutting and palletisation, as well as seeing the administration team behind the factory.

Sally commented; “It was a pleasure to visit Boxes and Packaging’s Doncaster site to meet the dedicated team whose skills and experience have helped the business thrive for decades. Manufacturing businesses such as Boxes and Packaging play a vital role in Doncaster’s economy, creating jobs and supporting national supply chains.”

The team also discussed the recently introduced PPWR legislation which has added a layer of bureaucracy to the packaging customers choose and caused confusion amongst suppliers, manufacturers and end users alike.

Paul added; “It’s important for our MPs in the UK to be engaged in their constituencies and visiting local businesses and chatting to their people is an accurate barometer as to the challenges our business and our people currently face.”
